EDIT: I contacted the manufacturer of my tablet; Trust, and they have agreed to send out a new pen to me free of charge. How very nice of them.

Looks like I wont have to go out buying a whole new tablet after all which is just as well seeing as nowhere local to me sells them anyway. Trust, Wacom or otherwise.

I'm just waiting for it in the post now as I contacted them a few days ago.
:)

Original post to follow.
----------------------------------

It would appear that I am going to be inactive in uploading for a while. There isn't anything keeping me from the computer or the internet but I am now without a functioning graphics tablet. :(

My current Trust tablet of 2 years has finally packed in. I think I dropped the pen one too many times. The metal screw thread came off when I was using it the other day. I tried to repair it by gluing it back on (it looked like it was glued on originally) but it didn't do anything. I pulled it off again and gave it a twist which made it work with really bad sensitivity for about 15 minutes. It packed in again then and I think its just easier to buy a new one now than to try keeping this one going.

I think I'll buy another Trust one when I can get to a shop that sells them (Tesco) as they are relatively cheap and I haven't had any problems with them that I didn't cause myself.

That's a shame :(

Hope you can get a new one sorted.

you don't need a tablet to do good work. it's not the tool that makes the artist.
the pen tool is just for making work quicker IMO.

actually I can't remember the last time i plugged mine in.

Nooooooo!!!! Dont buy a Trust tablet!! I strongly reccomend a Bamboo Fun by Wacom. Its about £68 but its so wonderful there are no words to say how good they are :D I had a graphire for about 13 years before it died and I got the bamboo just before Xmas. It has a lovely feel to it, like drawing on well toothed paper which makes using it a joy. May be a bit dearer than the Trust or (even worse!!) the Genius ones but they are sooooooo much better. They also have the bonus of having no battery in the pen (I think they work by Magic but I am not sure)so less to go wrong.

Heh heh...I think I should get a job with the Wacom marketing board....currently saving for a spiffy Cintiq pad :)

Seasons greetings and a happy new year to you bud!

Phill

PS: You could of course always use a pencil and paper....just a thought!

I always draw all of my picture with a pencil on paper and then ink them with fine-liners. I just use the graphics tablet for colouring purposes after I've scanned my drawings in. I can't control a mouse well enough to colour with one and I can't control a tablet well enough to draw with one.

I actually think I'm going to see about getting a new pen before I buy a whole new tablet.

Happy new year to you too!

I can't colour with a mouse to save my life. I still draw all of my work traditionally. I just use the tablet to colour.

ever investigated vector tools?
if you are worried about accuracy with the mouse, thats what vector is for.

I've only ever used vector tools for 'inking' an image when I wasn't happy with what I had done on paper. I can't ever see myself using vectors to colour; I find it very tedious.

it's only tedious if you aren't practised, but it's up to you of course.
at this stage, I'm pretty practised and i find that using vector tools is far more satisfying. it gives me far more control than ever possible with mouse or tablet.
