Why is it that when you draw just for the hell of it the results are always good and satisfactory but when you really want to draw something for a purpose it sucks ass?! Is it because too much effort is being put into it? Too much pressure placed on yourself? Either way I HATE it! RAAAGHH!!!

I really want to have a go at entering this Artists At The Ready original character tournament but can't for the f**king life of me get my drawings to look like how I want!
I can draw my characters fine but one of the rules is that you yourself have to be in the comics and I CAN'T DRAW ME! I've tried so many styles and only one seems right but now I seem to have lost the ability to draw bodies! Sure the head looks ok but it's no good to just be floating. I need a pissing body! I feel as though it looks like a 10 year old drew it. The fact I suck at poses isn't helping.

CRAP CRAP CRAPPITY CRAP!!!

I just want to scream or punch something at the moment. Gah, I hope this feeling passes soon. F**k!

Gnah. I know the feeling, trust me. Though I have the additional problem that when I want to draw idly "something", I get Art Block. Like, "um, what am i going to draw?" Really sucks, that. When I have a general idea of the finished piece, I usually manage.

When I don't get a specific pose right, I normally go get some reference. Preferably a drawing, as all the adaptive work is already done there. I know it's cheap, but hey... at least I stopped eating my furniture out of frustration. :P

wow, this is one of the rare angry alistu moments :fear:

i'm definitely sympathising with you on this one though

the photo thing could work, probably best if someone else takes the photo if you want a full pose of you not holding a camera :D

i'm really bad at poses so i'm trying a technique where i've made a model of the character i'm drawing out of modelling clay and putting him in the poses i want ^^

That might work if I knew how I wanted to pose.
On the upside I've calmed down now and rereading my rant actually made me chuckle.

Yeah, I was really angry but I'm calm now. :)

Problem with the photo idea is I don't know how I want to pose. I want the picture to look normal but not too neutral as is what usually happens when I have no pose in mind.

Will we be seeing said model here on dA?

Yeah, I guess I know what I want to draw, me, but not what I want 'me' to be doing.
If I had a pose in mind then I probably would find it easier but I want one that suits who I am.
